คณะสัตวแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล จัดอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการ WOAH Collaborating Centre Training on Sample Collection for Avian Influenza and Environmental Surveillance

คณะสัตวแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล โดยศูนย์เฝ้าระวังและติดตามโรคจากสัตว์ป่า สัตว์ต่างถิ่นและสัตว์อพยพ และ ศูนย์สุขภาพสัตว์ป่าแห่งชาติ ในฐานะ World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) Collaborating Centre for Wildlife Health Surveillance and Epidemiology ร่วมกับคณะเวชศาสตร์เขตร้อน และสถาบันชีววิทยาศาสตร์โมเลกุล มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล และ Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island ประเทศแคนาดา จัดกิจกรรมการฝึกอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการ WOAH Collaborating Centre Training on Sample Collection for Avian Influenza and Environmental Surveillance ในระหว่างวันที่ 10 -14 พฤศจิกายน 2568  

กิจกรรมดังกล่าว มีวัตถุประสงค์ให้ผู้เข้ารับการฝึกอบรมได้เรียนรู้และเข้าใจถึงความสำคัญของโรคไข้หวัดนก ตลอดจนขั้นตอนและวิธีการเก็บตัวอย่างสำหรับตรวจวินิจฉัยเพื่อค้นหาเชื้อโรคไข้หวัดนก ซึ่งเป็นโรคที่ส่งผลกระทบในวงกว้างทั้งทางด้านเศรษฐกิจและสุขภาพของคนและสัตว์ โดยมีผู้เข้ารับการฝึกอบรมจากหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องกับสุขภาพสัตว์ป่าจากประเทศไทย และประเทศในภูมิภาคเอเชียแปซิฟิก

กิจกรรมการฝึกอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการ มีเนื้อหาการอบรม ดังต่อไปนี้

• การระบุชนิดสัตว์ป่า การประมาณจำนวนประชากรสัตว์ และการสาธิตวิธีการดักจับ
• ความปลอดภัยทางชีวภาพ (biosafety)
• การเฝ้าระวังโรคทางสิ่งแวดล้อม (environmental surveillance)
• การบรรยายและจำลองการเก็บตัวอย่างจากสัตว์

การฝึกอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการในครั้งนี้ ได้รับทุนสนับสนุนการจัดกิจกรรมจากทุนสนับสนุนการพัฒนาความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศ ประจำปี พ.ศ. 2567 โดยกองวิเทศสัมพันธ์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล และทุนสนับสนุนการเดินทางระหว่างประเทศจาก International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

การจัดกิจกรรมครั้งนี้ มีบุคลากรของมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดลและสถาบันต่างประเทศ ร่วมระดมความคิดเห็นเพื่อจัดเตรียมเนื้อหาของหลักสูตรการฝึกอบรม วางแผนการจัดกิจกรรมฝึกอบรม และเป็นวิทยากรบรรยายและวิทยากรภาคปฏิบัติ ได้แก่ Wildlife Health Australia ประเทศออสเตรเลีย Centre national de la researche scientifique ประเทศฝรั่งเศส องค์การอาหารและการเกษตรแห่งสหประชาชาติ (FAO) National Parks Board ประเทศสิงคโปร์ สถาบันวิจัยวิทยาศาสตร์การแพทย์ทหาร (AFRIMS) Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative ประเทศแคนาดา องค์การสวนสัตว์แห่งประเทศไทย ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ กรมทรัพยากรทางทะเลและชายฝั่ง และกรมอุทยานแห่งชาติ สัตว์ป่า และพันธุ์พืช

หลังการจัดกิจกรรมฝึกอบรม จะมีการสรุปแนวทางและจัดทำแนวปฏิบัติสำหรับการเก็บตัวอย่างเพื่อเฝ้าระวังโรคไข้หวัดนก และจัดทำหลักสูตรมาตรฐานเพื่อใช้ในการฝึกอบรมให้กับบุคลากรที่ทำงานด้านสุขภาพสัตว์ป่า ต่อไป

The Faculty of Veterinary Science, Mahidol University, organized the "WOAH Collaborating Centre Training on Sample Collection for Avian Influenza and Environmental Surveillance" workshop

The Faculty of Veterinary Science, Mahidol University, specifically the Monitoring and Surveillance for Zoonotic Diseases in Wildlife and Exotic Animals and the Thailand - National Wildlife Health Center, in their role as the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) Collaborating Centre for Wildlife Health Surveillance and Epidemiology, partnered with the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, the Institute of Molecular Biosciences at Mahidol University, and the Atlantic Veterinary College, the University of Prince Edward Island, Canada, to host the workshop from November 10-14, 2025.

The activity aimed to teach participants about the impacts of Avian Influenza (bird flu) and the methods for collecting samples to diagnose the Avian Influenza pathogen. This disease can cause severe effects on the economy and the health of both humans and animals. Participants in the training came from wildlife health agencies in Thailand and other countries across the Asia-Pacific region.

The workshop included the following topics:

• Wildlife species identification, census, and demonstration of trapping methods
• Biosafety
• Environmental surveillance
• Lectures and demonstrations on sample collection from animals

This workshop received funding from the Joint Unit Scholarship for the 2024 fiscal year, provided by the Global Partnership Division, Mahidol University. It also received international travel grants from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The organization of this activity involved brainstorming to develop the training curriculum content, planning the training activities, and having personnel from Mahidol University along with experts from both domestic and international organizations serve as lecturers and practical instructors. These collaborating organizations included:

• Centre national de la researche scientifique (France)
• The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
• National Parks Board (Singapore)
• Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS)
• Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (Canada)
• The Zoological Park Organization of Thailand under the Royal Patronage
• Department of Marine and Coastal Resources
• Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation

Following the training activity, a summary of guidelines will be prepared, and a standard procedure for Avian Influenza surveillance sample collection will be established. Additionally, a standard curriculum will be developed for future training of personnel in wildlife health.
