Monoclonal antibodies are valuable immunodiagnostic, immunotherapy, and biological and biochemical research tools. Regarding disease surveillance, monoclonal antibody-based immunodiagnostic kits are available to detect numerous pathogenic microorganisms. It can be developed to be a screening test. That is useful for zoonotic and wildlife disease diagnosis in the field and SMART-Patrol, such as avian influenza, SARS-CoV2, other coronaviruses, foot and mouth disease, lumpy skin disease, bacterial pathogens, etc.
With the support of the WOAH Twinning Collaborating Center Project, two researchers/scientists from the MoZWE had visited the Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, Osaka University in Japan to practice about rapid screening test of wildlife and zoonotic diseases focused on monoclonal antibody production on July 31 – September 1, 2023. From this training, a laboratory for the detection of wildlife and zoonotic diseases with rapid tests will be set up. The knowledge will be applied to wildlife and zoonotic diseases in Thailand, which very benefit the network.
